Residential Steel Roofing...The WHY?

Your roof needs to stand up to a constant barrage from sun, wind, and precipitation. When you choose a steel roof, you choose a roof that will keep you sheltered for a lifetime.

Steel vs. Asphalt Roofing

Warranty

Asphalt roofing products warranty their products from 20 to 30 years. However, asphalt shingles wear away over their lifetime, taking a beating for your house. More resilient steel products have manufactures' warranties starting at 40 years covering the paint that might wear off the galvanized surface of the steel. Because steel is guaranteed to last so long, a steel roof is likely the last roof you would ever have installed.

Insurance

Replacing an asphalt roof with a steel one might reduce your insurance premiums. A moderate hail storm can devastate asphalt shingles; steel roofing, on the other hand, can take the blows from even large hail and remain watertight. Steel is also less susceptible to fire damage, remaining solid while asphalt melts. Because steel stands up better in extreme conditions, insurance companies might charge less to insure your steel-roofed home.

Heating Costs

A solar-reflective coating qualifies our products for the Residential Energy Tax Credits. This coating will keep your roof cooler in the summer, reducing your cooling cost significantly. While we are removing the old roofing material, we recommend insulating and ventilating the parts of your roof system that might be inaccessible with your roof on. This added insulation will not only prolong the life of the roof’s inner structure but also keep the living space underneath more comfortable and easier to regulate.

Environmental Impact

Steel is the most recycled material on the earth, and, in most cases, steel roofing material is no exception. Because steel lasts so long and is easily recycled, it is a more environmentally-friendly material than less durable and more wasteful asphalt shingles. If you’re a green thinker, then steel is for you.
